Take a leap of faith and begin this wondrous new year by believing. Believe in yourself. And believe that there is a loving Source – a Sower of Dreams – just waiting to be asked to help you make your dreams come true. Sarah Ban Breathnach
You can change your life or start something new any time, but I think there’s something special about the beginning of January! Right now, the New Year feels like a pristine notebook with pure white pages, untouched by human hands and open to endless possibilities.
You’re the author of your own story – so what will it be this year? As I type this blog, I can feel the presence of my Spirit friends around me – whispering insights from lifetimes of lessons learned, encouraging me to share them with you.
Here’s something Spirit wants you to know about plans, resolutions, and making 2018 the best year it can be.
Meaningful change comes from your deepest place.
Business consultants will tell you to begin with the goal in mind, but as a Spiritual teacher I like to say “Begin with your soul in mind!” Is there something you want that, no matter how hard you try, always seems just out of reach? It doesn’t matter if you’re in pursuit of a new job, fulfilling relationship, clutter free house or slimmer body.
Before continuing to chase the result you want, take a quiet, mindful moment to look inward and ask yourself these questions, and check out the advice from Spirit that I’ve included after each question:
– Is this my goal, or someone else’s goal for me?
Make the most of your time here on earth – and don’t waste your precious energy trying to please other people. Listen to the little voice inside that knows what is truly important to you.
– Is this something that I desire in my heart – or is this a goal I think I “should” achieve?
When you live life too much in from your head, instead of from your heart, it’s easy for the “shoulds” to take over! Don’t let them. Spend time every day doing something that raises your vibration – meditation, journaling, gardening, walking in nature, spending time with true friends or pets. Doing this will put you in the heart space, a place of pure unlimited possibility!
– Do I feel that I deserve this success – why or why not?
If you have difficulty pursuing your dreams with confidence or if you sabotage your own success, it could be that deep down you feel unworthy. Would you tell a friend that they didn’t deserve happiness? Treat yourself as you would that dear friend – and replace judgment with self-care and compassion.
– Would making this change take me out of my comfort zone?
Sometimes it feels safer to stay with the familiar – but that’s not why Spirit put you on this Earth. Don’t be afraid to step out of the box, and try something new. You are here to learn lessons and to leave this world a more evolved soul.
– Is there a hidden benefit to maintaining the status quo?
Sometimes we get stuck in bad habits for a reason. Be honest with yourself. Are there perks to not being in a relationship (you don’t have to compromise or change your ways) not losing weight (you might attract more attention, and have to deal with a whole set of new issues!) or not getting your career on the right track (more work, more expectations)?
– What old memories or fears does this issue bring up?
Old emotions, beliefs or fears that you haven’t processed might be standing in the way of the happiness and success that you deserve. Take the time to explore your feelings. You might see a counselor, work with a life coach, talk with a trusted friend, or write them in your journal. Whatever you do, now is the time to exorcise that old baggage so you can move on.
This is just the first step.
In 2018 I’d like to take you on a journey to the very best YOU. I hope these questions and insights have helped you to take the first step towards a life in synch with your soul – but we have a long road to travel! Check out this blog, my Facebook page and Hay House Radio – I’ll be sharing ideas to help you realize your dreams and be happy, healthy and holy this year and all of the years to come.
