I’ve been thinking about my mother for the last couple of weeks. Maybe it’s because Mother’s day is coming up, or maybe it’s because she’s been trying to reach across the veil and contact me. Spoiler alert: she succeeded (more about that later).
When you look back on the important relationships in your life after some time has passed, you often see things differently. It’s that way when I think of my Mother. Our relationship wasn’t perfect while she was alive, but I’ll always appreciate the insightful way she helped me understand and accept my mediumship. When I first told her I could see dead people at the foot of my bed, she acted as if it was totally natural – but also explained that not everyone had the ability to connect with Spirit, and that it was a gift. Her calm compassion was just what I needed at that time, and I’ll always be grateful to her for that.
Now, my mother is one of my guides, protecting, nurturing and assisting me in a way that she was unable to do in life. She usually signals her presence with a “Blue Moon” – which was her favorite song, but this weekend she switched things up!
Mom Lends a Helping Hand
So, here’s my Mother’s Day story. Last Friday night I packed to go to Peekskill New York for an event. Because I was having some work done on my house, I wasn’t able to lay out my clothes and pack in my usual meticulous way. I’ve traveled so much over the years that I have a process, but with the house torn up I was forced to wing it. Long story short, after my flight and a long car ride to Peekskill, I unpacked and realized I’d forgotten a belt. I was wearing a suit, and didn’t want to go on stage without a belt – but what choice did I have? Well, that’s where mom came in. When I was in the Green room, my brother showed up. “Can I borrow your belt?” I asked him.
He laughed. “The weirdest thing happened on the way over here. I was wearing a brown belt with these grey pants, and I heard Mom’s voice in my head. “You can’t wear that brown belt. You’re going to need a black one!” For some reason I felt like I just HAD to stop the car and run into a store and get a black belt. I have two belts on right now – see?” My brother took off a shiny black belt and under it was a well-worn brown one.
Well, thanks to Mom (and my brother Michael for listening to her), I went on stage fully dressed, feeling a strong connection to her and many other Spirits who came through.
Getting Love When You Need It
A mother loves you unconditionally – no matter what you do. Maternal love is the highest, most divine love of all, there to nurture, heal and protect you. Maternal love and grounding energy is necessary for all of us –if you haven’t experienced it yourself it’s difficult to come from a place of love and forgiveness when dealing with others. If you think about it, many (if not all) of the problems of the world can be traced to a lack of this quality.
If maternal love is so critical, what can you do if your biological mother isn’t around, or is incapable of providing that special brand of unconditional love?
You can find a substitute mother figure – an aunt, grandmother, family friend – any loving grounded soul who you can truly connect with will do. One of my friend’s mothers was a kindred spirit who showered me with love when my own mother couldn’t be there for me. She seemed to have an infinite pool of love and compassion for her own children, me, and so many others. I think of her and my own mother so often!
If you’re missing a mother, grandmother or anyone who provided you with special, maternal love, I hope you’ll join me for a very special online event – Healing Messages From the Spirit World. With Mother’s Day just a couple of days away, I know the messages will be filled with healing and motherly comfort.
