Tap into the Energy of the Equinox

Sep 16, 2020 | JVP's Blog

These are strange times. As I look out my window, the sun glows ghostly white in an eerie gray sky. Fires are raging throughout California, Washington, and Oregon – it’s one of the worst fire seasons in history. My home isn’t in the path of the flames but just about everyone on the west coast is feeling the effects. And of course, there’s the pandemic.

The turmoil we’re experiencing just reinforces the fact that the earth is out of balance – and while necessary, the process of coming back into balance can be uncomfortable. As we approach the Fall Equinox, I encourage you to harness its powerful energy to be “part of the change,” a source of light and love for the earth and everyone who lives there.

What is the Fall Equinox?

The Fall Equinox occurs when the sun passes the equator moving from the northern to the southern hemisphere. At this time, day and night are the same lengths.

This year the fall equinox arrives on Tuesday, September 22 – at the moment that fall begins in the Northern Hemisphere and spring begins in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Equinox energy isn’t just a day on the calendar – it is essentially an ascension tool for the Earth, the Cosmos, and all of humanity.

How you find yourself inspired by the season and the equinox is personal. I suggest you spend some time meditating, perhaps doing yoga outdoors, or taking a mindful walk, and see what comes to you. Or, consider using one of these techniques to harness the mystical energy of the solstice for your own spiritual growth.

Let go, so you can grow.

For many years, I’ve looked forward to traveling to the east coast to watch the leaves turn. As the trees showed their gorgeous colors and dropped their leaves to expose bare branches, I’d feel their loss at a deep soul level. But it wasn’t a sad event. By releasing the leaves, the trees prepared themselves for winter, and by decomposing on the cold ground the fallen leaves would enrich the soil so more trees and plants can grow.

Think of the leaves as an analogy for your own growth and take this cue to dig deep, and release those things that don’t serve you.

Find Your Own Balance

As the sun travels across the equator and day and night are in perfect balance, take the opportunity to balance your own earthly needs with your spiritual side. Think about your life. Are you doing work that really resonates with you and brings you joy? Are you spending time with people who you inspire you to be the best version of yourself? Are you “too busy” to meditate, or to even look up at the sky and appreciate the wonder of nature? What changes can you make to bring your life into balance?

Get in Touch with Nature

Now is the time to ground yourself by connecting with the earth. Take a long walk on the beach, or “bathe” in the cool energy of a forest. If you live in the city, you can visit a park, or admire the stars in the sky. And connect with the healing power of the new moon on September 17th with meditation or prayer.

When the Fall Solstice signals the end of summer, remember that across the globe, spring is beginning. And when the world is out of balance, know that it’s moving steadily toward transformation and healing.
