Do you long to feel closer to Spirit? Imagine yourself going through every day safe, blessed and protected by loved ones in heaven. Establishing this connection isn’t difficult, but it does require a shift. In your earthly existence, it’s likely that you set goals, make lists and take a systematic approach to getting things done. For the most part, you know what to expect. It’s not always that way when dealing with the Spirit world, where the best way to receive signs from your loved ones and guides is to sit in the stillness and let the magic happen.
Don’t try too hard!
Hundreds have experienced my immersion courses – like my latest – Bringing Spirit Home for the Holidays. I read emails every day from people who share how after the experience they felt closer to their loved ones in heaven, resolved unanswered questions and received healing signs. Not everyone will receive the answers and connection in the way they expect to, and some might miss the signs entirely – but that’s the result of trying too hard, rather than sitting back, being still, and letting Spirit take over.
Be open to the wisdom of the universe.
When looking for a sign from the other side, it’s helpful to keep this parable in mind. You’ve probably heard it in one form or another, and it perfectly illustrates my point.
A man was trapped in his house during a flood. He began praying to God to rescue him. He had a vision in his head of God’s hand reaching down from heaven and lifting him to safety. His neighbor drove by in his truck and offered him a ride. Then a boat came by with some people heading for safe ground. They yelled at the man to grab a rope so they could take him to safety. Finally, a helicopter flew by and a voice came over a loudspeaker offering to lower a ladder and take him off the roof. Each time the man refused the help, saying, “No Thanks, I’m waiting for God to rescue me.” The flooding water came over the roof and caught him up and swept him away. He drowned. When he reached heaven and asked, “God, why did you not save me? Why did you let me drown?” God replied, “I sent you a pick-up truck, a boat and a helicopter and you refused all of them. What else could I possibly do for you?”
Think about that for a moment! Is Spirit sending you signs that you are ignoring because they are not exactly what you are expecting?
A sign from heaven.
Here’s a story that my friend, Paulette, shared with me last holiday season. She had been feeling a little down and nostalgic, thinking of her husband who had passed away 15 years earlier. She was remembering how they’d celebrated Christmas together in their New York apartment. They didn’t have money for lavish decorations, but every year he would buy her a big bunch of holly. To Paulette, those shiny green holly leaves and bright red berries signaled the start of the holidays. After her husband died, she moved to California, where poinsettias are everywhere, but holly isn’t widely available. One day, right before Christmas, her husband was on her mind and she was praying for a sign that he was still with her – but she couldn’t feel his presence. That evening, she was leaving work when her boss came up to her and said “Someone sent me this, and I’m flying to Texas tonight so I won’t be able to enjoy it– would you like to take it home?” She handed Paulette a giant spray of holly. Paulette knew it was from her husband, sending her a gift from beyond.
